In every aspect of our lives, we aim to achieve balance and harmony. Whether it's the food we intake or the relationships we cherish, we want to give the proper time and attention. The same can be said in wanting to achieve harmony and balance between work and life.
Work-Life balance is different to each of us, but in principle, it's about spending the perfect amount of time on hobbies and interests outside of work. It can be:
At the end of the day, we all have the choice to make empowering changes in our lives.
These days, the idea may seem challenging with all the adjustments needed to be made, but I'm here to tell you that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and it's possible to take charge of the things you deem essential. I want to share with you how Work-Life balance allows you to live life to the fullest and the first steps you can take to kickstart your journey!
Why Work-Life Balance is necessary
Striking a balance with the workload you take daily can lead to less stress in and out of the workplace. Too much pressure can lead to burnout which is the constant feeling of being overwhelmed and unable to deliver quality output at work. Both stress and burnout are avoidable once you allot time to the things that take priority and are the most productive.
Healthier Mind and Body
When you're not worrying or catastrophising over different things, your mind is more capable of dealing with any negative thoughts and emotions. This resilience will make you feel more at ease with yourself and better understand your feelings and what you want and need.
A balanced mind also leads to better physical health. You're able to choose healthier and more nourishing meals. You'll also have more time to work those muscles and get moving! With a healthier mind and body, you'll be less prone to any health risks, dis-ease and anxiety.
Like your friends, family, and partner, the people you cherish are an integral part of your support system as you go through different milestones in life. Making sure you're able to give them time to grow and maintain your relationships will pave the way for better communication and deeper connections. So, if you're looking for a sign to plan that long-awaited date night, friendly dinner, or mini family reunion, then this is it 😊
Be present in every moment with your loved ones, and I'm sure they'll feel your love for them.
More Productivity and Engagement at Work
Work-Life Balance means being able to efficiently manage different tasks at work so you can focus on other things that also matter. Better efficiency results in more productivity! Since your mind is clear, focused, and present, your work hours will definitely run smoothly. Your high level of performance will make you feel more engaged with your work and co-workers and can help you boost your career too!
Enhanced Creative Thinking
If you're planning your next project at work or your hobby, you'll need to channel your creative juices and create something you can be proud of. Giving proper attention to both will improve your creative thinking skills because you'll feel more inspired and motivated knowing that you're doing well.
When your mind has the space to think, you're able to come up with unique ideas leading to more confidence and higher self-esteem. Visualize your ideal outcomes and see them materialise right in front of you. You can learn more about visualization here>>>>
Happiness and Success
Who doesn't want to be happy? We are constantly searching for ways to have the happiness we deserve and continuously do things that we find meaningful and fulfilling. Balancing work and life is a critical component in empowering your mind for success in your chosen endeavours.
How to achieve Work-Life Balance
So how does one begin? There are so many methods available that it can become overwhelming. With this in mind, I've put together these highly essential and practical tips to help you get started in mapping out how to create balance and harmony in your life.
Set your priorities
There is no exact formula that works for everyone, and therefore, you need to take a closer look at how much each part of your life matters for you. If you think that at this point, you're not spending enough time on your priorities, then there is a need for change. Grab a pen and a journal and start listing them down to keep you inspired!
See the Bigger Picture
Now, let's zoom out. Imagine your life where you allow the right amount of energy on activities and people based on your current capacity. Evaluate where you are in life and if your current job is suitable to that picture you created in your mind. Think about the choices you can make to address any gaps and consistently fulfil those choices. Take action about how you think by mastering the law of attraction (learn how here>>>) and manifesting what you want, what you really, really want.
Clarify your Boundaries
It's perfectly okay to decline when you feel like you're being spread too thin. As humans, we have our limits making it vital that we don't compromise what we can offer. To enjoy the harmony of Work-Life Balance, you must be clear with your boundaries. Whether it's the amount of work or the hours you clock in, you are taking responsibility and control of your precious time while delivering excellence!
Don't forget to loop in your co-workers too! Let them know that your daily hours are not just for work so they can give you the time and space you need. Inform them of your availability and rest easy at home without the constant notification beeps from your phone.
Manage your Time Wisely
Time Management is an integral part of living a well-balanced Work-Life setup. Establish a routine of your daily activities and create a schedule that works for you. Make sure to stick to that schedule! Creating a structure will allow you to finish tasks within a given time block and significantly reduces the tendency to overwork or stretch out tasks for too long. For example, allot two hours for a report then thirty minutes to answer inquiries from clients. Knowing what you're going to do next will make your work hours more productive and capable of achieving great results!
In creating a balance between our personal lives and careers, let's not forget that we are meant to benefit from it too. How can we practise Self-Care? It can be as simple as taking breaks at work to allow your mind to recharge and your legs to stretch. Use your breaks to chat with a loved one or a friend to see how they're doing, or grab a quick healthy snack and drink to fuel yourself. Aside from eating healthily, make sure you're getting the proper amount of rest and sleep to allow the mind and body to prepare once again for the next day to come.
Continue pursuing your hobbies and putting forward your personal growth. Your free time can be used to finish a book, try out a new recipe, or watch that television show everyone is telling you to check out. These allow you to look forward to something after giving your best at work. As they say, don't be afraid to treat yourself!
With every bit of good thing that comes your way, remind yourself always to show gratitude. This practice is the proven key to happiness and success. Writing down what you're grateful for in your journal attracts powerful and positive energy that opens up a vast number of fantastic opportunities ahead. Integrate writing into your daily routine, and you'll feel happier and more motivated with the release of the feel-good hormones serotonin and dopamine.
Create a conducive space where you can gather your thoughts at the end of the day and allow your hand to naturally flow in your Gratitude Journal. You can incorporate some soft music and relaxing scented candles for a wholesome, blissful experience.
